Save The
Sitting Room

For more than twenty years, from Christchurch studios to its home above Lyttelton Harbour, Ben Edwards has been making records in The Sitting Room. A landslip in June 2025 disrupted the studio, and the community around it is asking for help to save it.

"When you listen to a recording that you really love, you can hear the space around the notes, that both colours the sound, and also nurtures and shelters the players so that they can do their best work. The Sitting Room has been that kind of space for many of us, for many years. Let's do all we can to keep the lights on, and the music flowing."

The Story

The room the
music came from

The Sitting Room sits on the hillside above Lyttelton Harbour. For more than twenty years, across Christchurch studios and now its Lyttelton home, it has been a second home for some of Aotearoa's best songwriters, with producer Ben Edwards behind the desk.

Ben has never chased the spotlight. He has put his time into other people's records instead: hundreds of them, late nights and early mornings, helping an artist sound like themselves on tape.

A landslip in June 2025 disrupted The Sitting Room. Work towards reopening is ongoing. The repairs are serious, and the cost is more than one small studio can carry on its own.

So the community around Ben is building something back. We have started a Givealittle campaign, and we are asking everyone who cares about this room to chip in what they can.
